The best basketball games are often ones with many lead changes. If the 2025-26 season was a game, there would be enough of them to make an all-time classic game in just the first-half alone.

There are no undefeated teams left in the area after Peoria High took down East Peoria recently, a much-needed win for the Lions who had lost their last two. Morton was another squad that snuffed out a flame, beating Normal Community after the Ironmen won the State Farm Holiday Classic.

Small school hoops have seen some topsy-turviness in the last few weeks too as Normal U-High and Eureka have surged while Brimfield and Fieldcrest are looking to rebound after multiple losses.

The first CSM Basketball Power Rankings of the new year looks much different than it did in mid-December with all 10 spots filled by new teams. Three small school squads who were not ranked before the holidays have taken over the top spots in the small school rankings.
