Richwoods knows it can lean on Moore, Bradford with star sidelined

PEORIA — The clock read 1:37 in the fourth quarter.


Richwoods head coach William Smith called a timeout. The Knights were down 56-53 against Chicago Kenwood, a perennial power from the Windy City. If they were to complete the comeback attempt, they needed to do something right then and there.


Eventually, Richwoods hit a big shot to tie the ballgame up at 56, the Broncos called a timeout of their own, and the game was well and truly on.


“I thought when it was 56-56, when we called the timeout, we knew they were trapping,” Smith said. “We knew who they were running and jumping off of and it gave us the opportunity to actually construct a play.”


With about 30 seconds on the clock, Richwoods needed just one score. And they found it.
