State Preview: Richwoods heads to Champaign with chip on its shoulder

The road to Champaign hasn’t been easy, but it hasn’t mattered for Richwoods. Reaching its first state semifinal berth since 2010, the Knights have had the toughest lineup of playoff opponents of any team at the IHSA State Finals but the Knights still feel like they have more to prove.


“We’ve felt like we’ve been underdogs since early in the season,” Richwoods head coach William Smith said. “Of course Metamora earlier in the season was nationally ranked and then Morton came along, so a lot of talk was about Metamora, Morton and Normal Community and we were kind of on the backburner. We definitely carry a chip on our shoulder from that.” 


In terms of what the Knights have already proven, the list is long.
