The Roundup, Feb. 18, 2026: Morton ekes by Richwoods, Peoria Christian wins ICAC title

A highly abbreviated high school sports day in Central Illinois featured a pair of intriguing boys hoops contests as Morton beat Richwoods in a matchup of area powers and Peoria Christian clinched an Inter-County Conference title.


In boys basketball


Morton 66, Richwoods 62: Morton (25-4, 13-1 Mid-Illini) won a non-conference contest that felt like a playoff game at home on senior night over Richwoods (23-7, 7-3 Big 12). Alex McKie’s 19 points and Silas Steffen’s 18 points led the Potters. Jack Wilderman added nine points in the win, as did Brendan Petty who also contributed more than a handful of rebounds and blocks. Richwoods’ Amarion Smith-Holley led all scorers with 26 points, Tony Bradford was second on the team with 14 and Davion McLendon scored nine first-half points.


Peoria Christian 57, Illini Bluffs 49: Peoria Christian (20-7, 7-0 Inter-County) locked up an ICAC title by beating longtime league power Illini Bluffs (12-17, 2-5). Luke Holland led the Chargers’ balanced effort with 13 points, five rebounds and a pair of blocks. Also making similar contributions in the win were Myles Zimmerman (11 points, five assists, three steals), Jacob Walton (11 points, four rebounds, two steals) and Trae Brickner (10 points)
