Nine Central Illinois girls basketball teams won regional titles on Thursday night, led by four from Class 1A and three from the Heart of Illinois Conference.
Bloomington (2009) Midland (1999) and Tri-Valley (1985) ended long droughts without a regional title with the Vikings and Heyworth using second-half comebacks to avoid an upset. Dee-Mack and Richwoods were in control for most of the game, but staved off comeback attempts to take home plaques while Washington, Normal U-High and Roanoke-Benson all won in dominant fashion.
The first day of the IHSA State Finals in boys wrestling had no shortage of action with 10 area wrestlers securing semifinal berths. Washington and Olympia both had multiple wrestlers in that group. Four area boys basketball teams closed out their regular season with wins as well.
