The Roundup: Feb. 20, 2025: Pekin girls break long drought among area regional winners, state wrestling begins

Regional title plaques were handed out in girls basketball with some breaking droughts and others extending a streak. 


Three Mid-Illini programs won crowns including Pekin, who broke a 44-year regional title drought. Washington and Normal Community won their fourth straight championships while Dee-Mack, Morton and Illini Bluffs all prevailed in close contests. Peoria Notre Dame and Bloomington Central Catholic also won Class 2A regional titles.


The first day of the IHSA Individual State Finals kicked off in Champaign with Olympia, Washington and Normal Community all featuring multiple wrestlers that didn’t lose.
