The Roundup, Feb. 24, 2026: Heyworth, Dee-Mack, Midland, Tri-Valley, Washington, Richwoods advance to sectional titles

Six girls basketball teams in the Peoria and Bloomington/Normal area continued their magical seasons and advanced into the Sweet 16 of their respective classes on Thursday night.


In Class 1A, Dee-Mack and Heyworth put on strong performances in the Iroquois West Sectional and will face off for a third time this season in Thursday’s sectional title game. Midland was also impressive with a big win at the Class 1A Shabbona Indian Creek Sectional.


Tri-Valley reached the 30-win mark in a big win over Petersburg PORTA in Class 2A while Normal U-High’s bid to play for a sectional title ended at the buzzer. Washington and Metamora experienced differing fates in the Class 3A Galesburg Sectional and Richwoods will play for a sectional title on its home court after eliminating Moline. 


Morton advanced to the regional finals in the lone boys playoff game of the day.
