An action-packed Friday of postseason action was headlined by 11 area boys basketball teams lifting up regional plaques with many of them coming in down-to-the-wire games.
East Peoria won its first regional title since 1997 while Morton did so for the first time since 2014 as both beat fellow area powers. Class 1A No. 9 Illini Bluffs and Farmington both pulled off upsets while Dee-Mack, Normal Community, Normal U-High and Tremont all won tight battles. Brimfield and Manual both won their regional crowns in blowout fashion.
The first day of girls wrestling and boys swimming kicked off with several area athletes, including Normal Community’s Wade Pyle, in contention for a state-placing spot heading into Saturday.
