GILMAN – With just less than a minute to go in regulation, Dee-Mack’s Dalia DeJesus subbed out of the game for the final time.
The highly-touted senior approached Chiefs head coach Joni Nightingale and gave her a fully-wrapped, strong hug. DeJesus, with emotion, then uttered words only few can say:
“We’re sectional champions!”
Another girls basketball plaque is headed back to Mackinaw as Dee-Mack (31-3) outlasted a gritty Heyworth squad 48-23 in the Class 1A Iroquois West Sectional championship on Thursday.
