The Roundup, May 28, 2025: Upsets, close games abound on big night of playoff action

A night filled with important playoff games in baseball, girls soccer and softball brought plenty of captivating finishes and big performances across the area.


Dunlap’s Owen Shissler threw a no-hitter, Normal Community avoided an upset in a highly unusual finish to a 12-inning marathon and Limestone took down East Peoria to lead the way in Class 3A/4A regional baseball action. 


Eureka, IVC and Heyworth all won nail-biters to secure berths in sectional title games as Parker Roberts, Max Gregory and Boston Katz shined on the mound.


Peoria Notre Dame and Morton girls soccer both won sectional semifinal contests to set up a big-time Class 2A sectional title game against each other.
