WASHINGTON — As hard as it may be to believe, the outcome of Washington’s 57-37 Mid-Illini title-clinching win at home over Morton may not have been the biggest reason why the Panthers’ night was so special.

It was the final home game for the most talked-about senior class in Central Illinois, as all eight of them were honored on senior night prior to tipoff. Decorated tables, treats and posters adorned the lobby of Torry Gym.

The Panthers continued the party on the floor as well.

The celebration culminated with Diya Iyer — Washington’s ball of energy and enthusiasm at the end of the bench who was beckoned onto the court by the student section in the closing minutes — draining a three to put the icing on the cake. There was not a louder roar all night in a jam-packed Torry Gym.
