SPRINGFIELD — Momentum is arguably the biggest thing any team can have in the postseason and Morton and Normal U-High’s volleyball teams have plenty of it.
The Potters and Pioneers are akin to fast-moving freight trains and on Thursday, they will collide with the Class 3A Springfield Southeast Sectional title on the line after advancing in Tuesday’s sectional semifinals.
Morton overcame a 21-25 first-set loss to Normal West, who had been carrying plenty of momentum in their own right, to down the Wildcats 25-20 and 25-11 in the final two sets. Morton’s middles, junior Abby VanMeenen and Penelope Drake, orchestrated the attack to help the Potters win their 12th in a row to move to 33-3 on the season.
“The girls handled the ups and downs of the match really well,” Morton head coach Jordan Williams said. “There was great leadership and trust on the court.”
