METAMORA — As simple as it sounds, Metamora football is Metamora football.
From top to bottom, nearly everybody in the program is a born and bred Redbird. Many of them have friends and family that tell tales of heroics on the old Malone Field grass, as well as Mid-Illini and state championships. And just about everyone has some sort of connection with Pat Ryan.
Metamora’s new football head coach Nick Delinski is no different as a new — yet very similar — era is being ushered in.
The longtime Redbirds coach and offensive coordinator had to be patient in order to get his dream job. A 1996 graduate of the high school, Delinski had to wait as the head coaching position didn’t open up until Ryan called it a career in 2020 after 30 years.
Delinski’s longtime friend Jared Grebner then won the head coaching sweepstakes and led the Redbirds for five years until he resigned in January.
Now, Delinski is set to fulfill a goal that’s been nearly three decades in the making.
