DECATUR — Bloomington Central Catholic softball may have not left Workman Family Softball Field with a ticket to state punched, but the Saints are still walking away proud as the best team in program history.

BCC plated a run in the second inning and shut Williamsville out for the first five innings, but the Bullets scored six runs within their last six outs to win 6-2 in Monday’s Class 2A Decatur Super-Sectional.

“It's going to sting a couple more days but we're going to get back at it the next day or two and prepare again for next year,” BCC head coach Jeff Schade said.

The Saints surprised many with their postseason run after going 19-13 and finishing seventh in the Illini Prairie Conference during the regular season.

The No. 6 seed Saints were the lower seed in every postseason game they played, but shut out Westville, beat conference foe Monticello in nine innings for a regional title, knocked off No. 1 seed Marshall in another one-run game and downed IPC champion Tolono Unity for the program’s first-ever sectional title.
