Brimfield moves on to 1A sectional semis after 29-point victory over Fieldcrest: ‘didn’t expect to win like this’

KNOXVILLE – When the clock hit all zeroes in the Class 1A Knoxville Regional final, the Brimfield crowd went wild.
They just saw their hometown team defeat Fieldcrest by 29 in a game where they were the higher seed, but also could have been considered the underdogs against a team that was battle-tested in the Heart of Illinois Conference all season long.
Not long after the handshake line, the Indians rushed over to their student section, who had been loud all night long, and celebrated with them before being handed the regional plaque.
“We were obviously looking to win, but we didn’t expect to win like this,” Brimfield head coach Scott Carlson said. “I think most people were predicting Fieldcrest even though they were the higher seed. It’s my 28th year coaching and it’s been 10 years since we’ve won a regional, so Brimfield deserves it.”
