Canton’s Williams breaks through to win Class 1A heavyweight title in senior season: ‘Surreal’

CHAMPAIGN — It was going to take a drive to finish his senior year strong, guts and a whole lot of strength for Canton’s Connor Williams to win a Class 1A 285-pound state title. 


The Little Giants senior and Lena-Winslow/Stockton’s Jeremiah Luke were locked in one of the closest matches of championship day at the IHSA State Finals. The two pushed monstrous amounts of weight against each other for over six minutes with neither wrestler giving up hardly any ground. 


“I just had to drag myself to the deepest parts of what I could think of,” Williams said. “And if I didn't win, I died.”
