Redbirds flying high after first regional title in 10 years

METAMORA — Every once in a while, Metamora girls basketball coach Michaela Hurst’s mom makes cookies for the team to snack on after a game.
The Redbirds certainly earned their tasty reward on Friday night as their defense ate up Morris to win its first regional title since 2010 in a 62-28 beatdown at Toepke Gym.
“It means everything to our players,” Hurst said. “I tell them that every time a win is a player's win, and a loss is a coach's loss so this is all on them.”
