EAST PEORIA — Quite rarely do we see two top-10 ranked teams face off in the regionals.

That’s exactly what happened in the Class 3A East Peoria Regional final between Morton and Galesburg on Thursday night, two teams with 20-plus win seasons and a hunger for more.

The two teams met earlier in the regular season, with the Silver Streaks coming out on top 38-34. Galesburg had a chance to go 2-0 against the Potters and it did, topping their opponents 35-19 and securing its second regional plaque in a row.

“It’s amazing, Morton’s always been a kryptonite for us; they’ve always been a strong team, well programmed, well coached,” Galesburg head coach Lexi Demott said. “It’s an exciting feeling. Those kids were pumped and they deserve every single moment of it.”

Meanwhile, on the other end of the sidelines, there was heartbreak when that final buzzer sounded as Morton finished its season at 24-7.
