Coaching staff of collegiate stars playing key role in Dunlap’s rise

DUNLAP — February and March are where a lot is made about a basketball team’s experience.
Having veterans that are acclimated to big moments and know how to respond can be the difference between going home early and a state title.
Dunlap boys basketball isn’t the most experienced team on paper and just two of their 13 players are seniors. A year or two ago, Mack Sutter and Johnny Bargen looked like they’d bolster the Eagles’ experience this season before their lives in sports took them in different directions.
But the Eagles are headed in the right direction and stepping up in big moments behind a coaching staff that boasts a wealth of playing experience.
“The kids are starting to gel so it’s starting to get fun,” Dunlap second-year head coach Ryan Julius said. “And I mean being here too, everything's been about getting the right people on the bus with the staff, establishing the culture and making sure that the kids understand what the standard is.”
