Softball has been hard to predict in Central Illinois through the first half of the 2026 season.

Picking the favorite in a matchup between two of the top squads in the Mid-Illini may be best suited to determine via a coin flip. After slow starts, Normal Community and Peoria Notre Dame have started to pick it up in the Big 12. Normal U-High, who played the role of postseason Cinderella last year, is looking less of that part and more like a viable contender while many area schools jockey for position in the Heart of Illinois Conference behind undefeated LeRoy.

The upcoming week will provide a healthy dose of conference games as teams grind through the heart of their season.

Before it kicks off though, check out how the best softball teams in the Peoria and Bloomington/Normal area stack up in our weekly CSM Softball Power Rankings below. Teams in the Mid-Illini and the Big 12 are part of the large school rankings while area schools from any other conference are in the small school rankings.
