Even though it’s not over yet, the high school softball season in Central Illinois was full of surprises.
Washington was in the conversation to win a Mid-Illini title, but not many could’ve seen a 29-2 season coming. Nearly one month into the season, Normal Community was looking for its first win. On May 23, they won the outright Big 12 title.
Illini Bluffs had all the pieces on paper to make its sixth straight trip to the Class 1A State Finals. Delavan, who entered the playoffs at 11-14, had something to say about that. Normal U-High had to win three games in a pool full of sharks in order to win a regional title, and did just that.
The final weeks of the high school softball season in Central Illinois are primed to bring more surprises as sectionals kick off for Class 1A and 2A teams while Class 3A and 4A squads begin regional play.
The final CSM Softball Power Rankings of the season ranks the top five large school and top five small school teams in the Central Illinois area that has been brimming with talent all season long.
