Dreams on hold: Young Brimfield/Elmwood falls game shy of a state after walk-off defeat

EAST PEORIA — The tears that typically come with falling one win short of a state berth did not fall on the faces of the Brimfield/Elmwood softball team on Monday.
It’s not because the Indians didn’t care. It’s not because they expected to lose. It wasn’t because Indians weren’t close to a win either.
While many of them wore dejected faces after suffering a walk-off 4-3 loss to Beecher in 10 innings at the Class 2A East Peoria Super-Sectional, the Indians know that they can make it back next year.
“We have a whole other year, we've grown a lot this year so [we’ll have] the same goals, same motivation, same expectation,” Brimfield/Elmwood junior Sawyer Drury said. “We’re just going to bring it next year.”
