MINONK — The first round of the State Farm Holiday Classic hadn’t exactly been kind to Fieldcrest’s boys basketball teams over the past two years.

But on Friday, it provided the Knights with their biggest win of the season so far, a 46-39 victory over defending Class 1A state runner-up Lanark Eastland at Illinois Wesleyan’s Shirk Center.

In 2023, Fieldcrest fell to Rock Falls in the first round before going on to win the consolation bracket and finish the regular season 30-1. Last season, Chicago North Lawndale edged out the Knights by two before they lost to Eastland in the consolation championship.

This season, the Knights have eight seniors and they weren’t going to go out without the chance to play for a coveted Small School Boys bracket title.
