METAMORA — Dozens of placards noting sectional championships, all-state honorees and state placements adorn the fences surrounding Metamora’s tennis courts.

There’s plenty of reason to believe the Redbirds can add to them as Kelly Willard’s group has grown into being one of the area’s strongest forces on the courts this year.

The Redbirds have won seven straight sectional championships, but have won a program-record 27 matches this season which fuels the thought that this could be their best year yet.

“We’ve exceeded expectations,” Metamora senior Weston Lange said. “We’ve played a tough schedule and won pretty much every match.”

How Metamora became the area’s top team comes down to putting in months of hard work, while having a chip on their shoulder and plenty of fun too.
