MORTON — Morton offensive lineman Soren Fifer was heavily pursued by many Big 10 programs, but decided on Thursday to stay in the state and committed to Illinois.

“After much thought and consideration I have decided to continue my education and football career at the University of Illinois! Thank you to every coach who has recruited me and helped me I wish you the best,” Fifer posted on X on Thursday morning.

Fifer is heading into his senior year in the fall after helping lead Morton to a 7-4 record and a berth in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs. He was a first team all-Mid Illini conference selection and has been a two-year varsity starter at left tackle.

The 6-foot-6, 295-pounder helped pave the way for the Potters to gain 2,079 rushing yards, 4,271 total yards and 35.6 points per game in 2025, earning Clutch Sports Media first team all-area honors. As a sophomore, he helped Morton rush for 2,401 yards with 32 touchdowns.

Fifer recently visited Illinois on April 25, six days after visiting Indiana. He held offers from North Carolina, Wisconsin, Iowa, Oregon, Indiana, Pitt, Duke, Cincinnati, Northwestern, Iowa State, Liberty and Illinois State.

Morton is scheduled to open the 2026 season on Aug. 21 at Mahomet-Seymour.
