Central Illinois football experienced a strong year in football with over a dozen teams around the Peoria and Bloomington/Normal area winning a playoff game.

Some made history, such as El Paso-Gridley, which had its winningest season since its schools consolidated two decades ago, and Farmington, which went 11-1 and finished its winningest two-year stretch in program history. Washington, meanwhile, extended its Mid-Illini win streak to 26 games en route to its third straight Mid-Illini Conference title.

It also featured some of the best players to grace the gridiron in Central Illinois, including Farmington’s Jack Gronewold and Dunlap’s Mack Sutter and others who make up Clutch Sports Media’s 2025 Football All-Area Team.

Clutch Sports Media’s football All-Area team, which features a total of 136 honorees, is composed of athletes from the 39 schools in the CSM coverage area surrounding Peoria and Bloomington/Normal. Players were eligible to earn honors at one position each, although many made significant impacts on both sides of the ball.

Clutch Sports Media will also have a Coach of the Year and a Football Player of the Year, which will both be announced shortly. All of the All-Area nominees below are listed by position, then in alphabetical order.

Clutch Sports Media All-Area First Team Offense

Breon Green, senior, Peoria High - Quarterback

Green electrified a Peoria High offense that scored 48.7 points per game and powered the Lions to a share of the Big 12 Conference title and the Class 5A quarterfinals. The senior accumulated 2,850 total yards, including 1,001 on the ground. He went 114-for-190 passing with 22 touchdowns and six interceptions and added 20 touchdowns on the ground. He won Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year honors and was a unanimous first-team all-conference selection.

Jaiduan Cranford, senior, Metamora - Running back

Cranford was a threat to change the game in the blink of an eye every time he touched the ball. Metamora’s Northern Illinois-bound speedster rushed for 1,170 yards on 135 carries (8.7 yards per carry) and 20 touchdowns — despite missing two games — for a Redbirds offense that was among the best in the area by averaging 42.1 points per game. Cranford added five catches for 147 receiving yards and two touchdowns while leading Metamora to an 8-3 record and the second round of the Class 4A playoffs. He became Metamora’s all-time leading rusher and earned IHSFCA Class 4A first team all-state and first team all-Mid Illini honors. Defensively, he added 17 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, an interception and three pass break-ups.

Valshun Powe, senior, Bloomington Central Catholic - Running back

Powe, an Illinois State commit, led the area with 1,919 rushing yards and 34 touchdowns on 184 carries, good for 10.4 yards per carry. The IHSFCA Class 3A first team all-state selection also threw for 358 yards and five touchdowns and caught eight passes for 143 yards and a touchdown. Powe also made an impact on defense and was a first team all-Illini Prairie Conference selection at running back and defensive back.

Cade Cunningham, senior, Normal U-High - Wide receiver

Despite undergoing a quarterback change in 2025, Cunningham spent another year as one of the top pass-catchers in Central Illinois, catching 62 passes for 979 yards and 14 touchdowns and adding 95 yards rushing. Cunningham earned first team all-Central State Eight honors for the third consecutive season and was an IHSFCA Class 4A second team all-state selection. He led the Pioneers to a 5-5 record and a Class 5A playoff berth and ended his high school career with 2,783 receiving yards.

The North Dakota-bound receiver caught 49 passes for 956 yards with 14 touchdowns through the air, on top of rushing for 481 yards and 11 touchdowns with 66 carries on the ground. He added three returns for touchdowns and was an IHSFCA Class 2A first team all-state and unanimous first team all-Lincoln Land Large player on offense and defense. Gronewold added 111 tackles, three tackles for loss and an interception at defensive back. He finished his prep career with 134 catches for 2,558 yards and 47 touchdowns.

Mack Sutter, senior, Dunlap - Tight end

Sutter finished a storied prep career by leading Dunlap to its best season since a Class 5A state runner-up finish in 2017 and drawing the attention of opponents at all times. A four-star recruit and Alabama commit, Sutter caught 31 passes for 596 yards and nine touchdowns, averaging 19.2 yards per catch. He accumulated 55.5 tackles on defense with five tackles for loss, one sack, one interception and one forced fumble. Sutter earned IHSFCA Class 5A first team all-state and Mid-Illini first team all-conference honors.

Jaquarius Green, senior, Peoria High - Offensive line

A four-year starter, Green was the unquestioned leader of Peoria High’s offensive line that was a key component to the Lions boasting two 1,000-yard rushers and a lethal passing attack. Behind Green, Peoria High accumulated 5,415 yards in 12 games (451 yards per game) and scored 40 or more points on seven occasions. Green also became a full-time starter on the defensive line and earned first team all-Big 12 honors on defense and second team all-Big 12 honors on defense. Green has earned college offers from Wisconsin-Whitewater, Muskingum and Minnesota State Career and Technical College.

Josh Hoffer, senior, Washington - Offensive line

A state champion wrestler who is committed to Illinois, he helped pave the way for a dominant Panthers ground game that racked up 2,957 yards and 41 touchdowns en route to a third straight undefeated Mid-Illini conference season and the Class 5A quarterfinals. Hoffer played both ways and had 27 tackles, seven tackles for loss, four sacks and a forced fumble on defense. He was a first team all-Mid Illini Conference selection for the second straight year.

Soren Fifer, junior, Morton - Offensive line

Fifer’s blocking helped the Potters rush for 2,079 yards and gain 4,271 total yards during a 7-4 season that saw them reach the second round of the Class 5A playoffs. A blossoming Division-I prospect, the 6-foot-6, 295-pound Fifer holds offers from Illinois, Pitt, Duke, Cincinnati, Iowa State, Liberty, Northwestern and Iowa.

Jarrod Fulcher, junior, Heyworth - Offensive line

Fulcher was frequently the top player on the field, regardless of position, and anchored the offensive line for Heyworth, which went 8-3 and won its first playoff game since 2009. Fulcher’s work on the o-line led a dynamic Heyworth offense that featured a 1,200-yard rusher in Braydon Laesch. He was the Hornets’ leading tackler on the defensive line with 80 tackles, four tackles for loss and two sacks. Fulcher earned IHSFCA Class 1A first team all-state laurels and unanimous all-Heart of Central Illinois Conference honors on the offensive and defensive lines.

Jacob Khoury, senior, Peoria Notre Dame - Offensive line

Peoria Notre Dame’s Wing-T offense was in good hands with Khoury leading the way on the offensive line as the Irish senior grabbed IHSFCA Class 4A all-state honorable mention honors. Khoury helped pave the way for a rushing attack that garnered over 4,000 rush yards and 48 touchdowns en route to an 8-3 campaign and a berth in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs.
