The Roundup, Dec. 20, 2025: Metamora, Eureka, Tremont Victors in Close Battles, Heyworth girls win holiday tournament

One of the busiest days of the entire 2025-26 winter sports season took place on Saturday with nonstop highlights in boys and girls basketball, boys and girls wrestling and boys swimming.
In boys hoops, Metamora, Tremont and Eureka headlined the action by winning thrillers in some of the area’s top matchups of the day. Many area teams competed at the Eureka College Shootout and Abingdon-Avon’s Great Western Shootout.
Pekin and Metamora won twice in girls hoops while Heyworth kept the title at the Heyworth Holiday Tournament. Morton, Washington, Dunlap and El Paso-Gridley were other key winners.
Wrestling tournaments across the state saw no shortage of winners from Central Illinois and Normal Community and Washington had strong days in the pool, winning their respective invites in boys swim.
