MORTON — When early May rolls around, some high school seniors are eager to be finishing up school, but that’s not the case for Morton’s Kate Cantwell.
The Potters’ multi-year softball starter puts as much effort into her grades as she does being one of Morton’s leaders on the field, in the lineup and in the dugout.
“If I'm being honest, I am a student-athlete, I take school very seriously,” Cantwell said. “I love school. Not a lot of people get to say that, but I love school.”
Cantwell is more than just a 'mathlete' though. The senior leads Morton in multiple hitting categories, bats cleanup nearly every night and is one of the team’s top defensive players as well.
“I care about my grades a lot, but obviously I'm out here and care about softball and [getting] some wins,” Cantwell said.
