CSM Boys Athlete of the Week nominees

Beckett Weber, Normal Community baseball

Weber continued to build on his breakout spring, hurling a no-hitter with eight strikeouts and two walks in five innings in a 10-0 win over Normal West on April 29. He also added an RBI double in that game and went 3-3 with a double and two RBIs in a 7-4 win over Moline on May 2 and drove in a run in a 7-0 win over Richwoods on May 1.

Ben Gorsage, Washington boys track and field

Gorsage ran one of the best races of his season at the Morton Distance Gala on May 2, turning in a personal-best time of 1:52.32 to win the 800 meters. The time was the second-fastest in Illinois during the outdoor season. The Washington junior also led the Panthers’ 4x400 relay to a win at Metamora’s Mach Speed and Flight Night on May 1 as the group finished in 3:24.04.

Dane Fagerburg, Brimfield/Elmwood baseball

Fagerburg was one of several Brimfield/Elmwood players to have a big week as the Indians outfielder was a doubles and RBIs machine atop the lineup. Fagerburg had two hits in a 12-1 win over Havana on April 28, an 8-7 win over Eureka on April 30 and a 15-0 win over LVC on May 2. Both of his hits were doubles against Eureka and LVC as he drove in five runs in the win over the Hornets and two more against the Miners. He also doubled and drove in two in the win over Havana.

Damir Harris, Normal West boys track and field

Harris put up several winning performances in two of the Wildcats’ biggest meets so far this season. He led Normal West to a Bloomington/Normal Intercity title on April 28 by winning the 100 meters in 10.85 and the 400 meters in 49.98 and finishing second in the 200 (22.02). He ran in Normal West’s winning 800 meter sprint medley relay at Metamora’s Mach Speed and Flight Night on May 1 and finished second in the 100 at the event with a clocking of 10.78.

Eli Michanicou, Dunlap baseball

Michanicou sizzled on the mound for the Eagles with five innings of shutout ball that was crucial in Dunlap pulling off a 3-2 win over Canton on April 30. The recent Bradley commit struck out 11, walked two and gave up just one hit in his outing. Michanicou also went 4-4 with a double and triple in a 14-0 win over the Little Giants on April 29 and went 2-4 with a double in a 10-2 win over Galesburg on May 1.
