Morton’s Stock, Washington’s Jaegle win CSM Fall Athletes of the Week

Mid-Illini Conference titles are still a long way from being decided but the two most recent Clutch Sports Media Fall Athletes of the Week have helped their teams get in position to challenge for them.

Morton volleyball player Rebekah Stock and Washington soccer player Will Jaegle were awarded CSM Fall Athletes of the Week honors after receiving the most votes in their respective polls following multiple impressive showings early in September.

Stock won tournament MVP honors and led undefeated Morton to a championship at one of the biggest tournaments in downstate Illinois while Jaegle scored a handful of goals to help power a solid start to the season for the Panthers.

Stock won CSM Girls Athlete of the Week after receiving 42 percent of the votes in the girls poll. The Potters senior was named to MVP at the Edwardsville Tiger Classic, a high-level tournament with many competitive squads, over Sept. 4-5. Stock had 30 kills and 41 digs over the course of the tournament where Morton beat Lincoln, Rock Island and O’Fallon in two sets in pool play, downed Mascoutah in three sets in the semifinals and beat defending Missouri state champion Lafayette in two sets in the championship match. Stock has helped Morton to an 11-0 start to the season.

What’s been your favorite memory of your high school career so far? 

“Going to state as a freshman.”

If you had to be stranded on an island with a teammate, who would it be and why?

“Leigha [Kempf] because we have been friends for a long time so I trust her and she is outdoorsy so she will do well being resourceful.”

Favorite music artist?

“Josiah Queen.”

Favorite food?

“Watermelon.”

Do you have any pregame routines/rituals?

“Nope.”

What’s one thing that’s on your bucket list?

“Road trip to lots of national parks out west.”

Who’s your role model and why?

“My grandma because she is the kind of person I want to be when I grow up: kind, encouraging, and loving. Also by seeing her love for volleyball, it reminds me why I love the game so much.”

Jaegle won CSM Boys Athlete of the Week after receiving 46 percent of the votes in the boys poll. The senior Washington standout added to his team-high goals total with three goals and two assists in a Mid-Illini Conference win over Limestone on Sept. 1 and scored twice more in the Panthers’ 4-0 win over East Moline United on Sept. 3. Jaegle has a team-high 12 goals along with four assists and has led the Panthers to a 7-1-1 start to the season.

What’s been your favorite memory of your high school career so far? 

“My favorite memory would have to be last year’s postseason run to the state final, along with all the bus rides before and after away games.”

If you had to be stranded on an island with a teammate, who would it be and why?

“I would be stranded on an island with Truman Lenover. He is smart and logical so we could solve any problems we face, but he is also funny so we could entertain ourselves the whole time.”

Favorite music artist?

“My favorite artist is Morgan Wallen.”

Favorite food?

“My favorite food is a smash burger.”

Do you have any pregame routines/rituals?

“Before every game, I drink electrolytes, eat fruit for the sugar and hydration, do light stretching, and listen to country music.”

What’s one thing that’s on your bucket list?

“One bucket list trip I have, would be going to a World Cup Final that is out of the country and then spending more time visiting the area.”

Who’s your role model and why?

“My two biggest role models would easily be my parents, Nick Jaegle and Jamie Jaegle. They are great human beings that enjoy and have successful careers. They have always supported me and have shown me valuable life lessons.”
