Normal Community eager for first season of flag football: ‘A really cool thing’

NORMAL — At many schools in Central Illinois, girls playing flag football is typically associated with the annual powder puff game.
Normal Community’s Anna Grotbo is one of many who enjoyed it as her first taste of playing on the gridiron.
“I was having so much fun playing that I was like, ‘If this was a sport, I would definitely try and do it,’” Grotbo said.
Luckily for Grotbo, flag football is now more than a homecoming week sideshow at several Bloomington/Normal schools.; It’s a full-fledged IHSA-sanctioned sport that’s providing opportunities for girls of all backgrounds to partake.
