BRADLEY – Heading into Monday’s Class 4A Bradley-Bourbonnais Super-Sectional, Normal Community knew it would have a steep challenge ahead of it for a trip to state.

Defending Class 4A state champion Chicago Marist looked the part of a formidable program, as it downed the Iron in straight sets: 25-8, 25-21. Normal Community (34-6, 10-0 Big 12) saw one of its most memorable seasons come to an end one game shy of state.

“We just said the idea of being more greedy for more time,”  Normal Community head coach Christine Konopasek said of the state of her team in the playoffs. “We had three tough matches leading up to this one where it was like we’ll take an extra day or two and we’re going to be happy about that.

“And then you get to this point, and you realize that there’s no time.”
