PEORIA — Peoria Notre Dame soccer player Siena Stone has had to make a change of plans.
The freshman who is starting in her first season for the 21-0-2 Irish may have thought she’d be helping her team win a regional title in late May — until USA Soccer came calling.
PND’s talented young star is temporarily headed overseas and will play for the U.S. U-15 Girls’ National Team in the Netherlands and Germany from May 15-25.
PND head coach Ben Ralph says she is believed to be the first girls soccer player from Central Illinois to ever earn a call up to a youth or pro U.S. National Team.
“It didn't feel real because it was like a dream come true,” Stone said. “It was just amazing to see the progress and everyone who's helped me through it too, they helped me get to this point also, it’s just so amazing.”
