“She’s incredible”: Dee-Mack’s DeJesus celebrates 2,000 points while elevating undefeated Chiefs

MACKINAW — It’s not a coincidence that Dee-Mack girls basketball began experiencing a sharp upward spike in success in 2022.
That’s when Dalia DeJesus stepped into the program as a freshman, helping lead the Chiefs to a 30-win season and the first of three consecutive regional titles.
Three years later, the senior forward has eclipsed a mark that few players in the state — boys or girls — can even dream of: scoring 2,000 career points.
DeJesus reached the big milestone in a 50-28 win over Williamsville on Tuesday, scoring 23 and helping the Chiefs keep their pristine 10-0 record intact. After scoring her 2,000th point on a layup late in the first quarter, she was presented with a commemorative trophy and a rousing standing ovation.
But 2,000 career points wasn’t a frequent subject of DeJesus’ dreams either. The veteran and team leader prioritizes much more than the stat sheet.
