After a day with no games or events due to rain, Tuesday was filled to the brim with high school sports action in Central Illinois.

Strong pitching performances were aplenty as Morton’s Collin Burns, Richwoods’ Jarek Quinn, East Peoria’s Addison Duncheon and Canton’s Tori Birch were just a sampling of many pitchers to shut down their opponents.

Washington baseball had a late rally to pull ahead at the last second against East Peoria while Dee-Mack and Illini Bluffs were other conference winners. Metamora softball muddied up the Mid-Illini by handing Dunlap its first conference loss and Normal U-High, Olympia and Washington were a few of many teams that won big.

Area soccer teams continued conference play and a huge day of track and field was highlighted by Normal West boys and Normal U-High girls winning the Intercity Meet by narrow margins, plus Metamora, Pekin and Tri-Valley winning meets on both boys and girls sides.
