A wild day of girls hoops featured it all, from close finishes, to No. 1-ranked teams experiencing upset losses, key conference tournament games, a new school scoring record being set and a state-ranked matchup going to overtime.
Metamora and Eureka grabbed headlines as the Redbirds took down Class 3A No. 1 Morton and the Hornets toppled Class 1A No. 1 Dee-Mack at the HOIC Tournament. Midland won the Tri-County Conference Tournament and Tri-Valley picked up a big win in HOIC action.
Fieldcrest’s Macy Gochanour also became the program’s all-time leading scorer in a slight upset win for the Knights on the same night that her Fieldcrest boys counterpart Kash Klendworth put up an eye-popping point total. Illini Bluffs girls played a tough game against state-ranked Mt. Pulaski on the road in overtime.
Morton won big in boys hoops while Tri-Valley and Dee-Mack earned their way into another game at the HOIC Tournament. Washington and Pekin picked up dual wins in boys swimming and several wrestling teams were in action as well.
