Vetter piles up hundreds of strikeouts, hundreds of hours to lead Bloomington softball

BLOOMINGTON — Walk near a softball field and close your eyes. It won’t be hard to tell if Bloomington’s Reilly Vetter is pitching.
You’ll hear a lack of distinct ‘ting’s from balls meeting bats and enough ‘pop’s in the catcher’s glove to put Orville Redenbacher to shame.
The Purple Raiders’ junior is a gym rat who eats, breathes and sleeps softball. She’s also one of the most dominant hurlers in the Central Illinois area that’s full of pitching talent.
“I think the best thing she does is just throw strikes,” Bloomington head coach Mike Egenes said. “And that sounds so simple but she just fills the strike zone so consistently and the way she’s spinning the ball, she misses quite a few barrels.”
