CSM Boys Athlete of the Week nominees

Breon Green, Peoria High football

Green put the Lions on his back in a 38-34 comeback win over Morton in the second round of the Class 5A playoffs. The Peoria High quarterback threw for 227 yards and two touchdowns, a 66-yarder to Jaylen Rayford and a 74-yarder to Dereon Mays in the first half. He added 94 rushing yards and two touchdowns, leading the Lions on their game-winning drive and scoring the go-ahead touchdown with 28 seconds left.

Gavin Stalter, Eureka boys cross country

Stalter was the highest-finishing runner for Eureka, who won the Class 1A state title at Detweiller Park on Nov. 8. Stalter’s time of 15:13.80 gave him 23rd place overall and all-state honors. He was one of five Hornets runners, along with Landon Wurmnest, Davin Dingledine, Adam Perry and Timothy Rogers, that finished in the top 60.

Hudson Scrivner, Washington boys soccer

Scrivner did what he does best in the final week of the season, scoring several times across the Panthers’ super-sectional and state matches. The Panthers’ senior broke a scoreless tie with a breakaway goal in a 2-0 win over Belleville Althoff in the Class 2A Taylorville Super-Sectional to send the Panthers to the state finals. There, he scored two goals that ended up being the difference-makers in Washington’s 4-2 win over Rock Island in the state semifinals on Nov. 7. He was one of two Panthers to score in their penalty kick shootout against state champion Chicago De La Salle in the title match.

Aaden Adams, El Paso-Gridley football

Adams answered the call for El Paso-Gridley in the Titans’ 31-0 win over Sterling Newman in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs. Adams ran for 118 yards and three touchdowns in the win, which gave the Titans their first quarterfinal berth in program history.

Aiden Faulkner, Elmwood/Brimfield boys cross country

Faulkner paced all Central Illinois runners at the Class 1A state finals, finishing sixth after crossing the line in 14:50.77. The time marked a personal-best for Faulkner and led the Trojans to a runner-up finish as a team.

Whitfield put up a 14-kill, 13-dig double-double in a win over Minooka in the Class 4A O’Fallon Sectional semifinals on Nov. 4. The Michigan State commit upped the ante with 25 kills and 17 digs in a three-set win over Belleville East on Nov. 6 in the sectional title game.

Quincy Points, Metamora girls swimming and diving

Points led Metamora to winning the Pekin Sectional, the Redbirds’ second consecutive such title, and qualified for state in multiple events. Points won the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.79, which was a personal-best for the senior. She was also part of a Metamora relay squad that took first place in the 200 free relay and 200 medley relay and qualified for state in both instances.

Bethany Sennett, Princeville girls cross country

Sennett led all area runners at the Class 1A state finals, finishing in 23rd with a time of 17:46.25. Her finish gave her all-state honors and her time set a new personal best by 12 seconds.

Nora Parsons, Tremont volleyball

Parsons was one of the headliners for Tremont’s attack that led the Turks in winning the Class 1A Abingdon-Avon Sectional, which was the first in program history. Parsons had a well-balanced stat line of four kills, four blocks and four aces on Nov. 4 in a sectional semifinal victory over ROWVA/Williamsfield. She split the team lead in kills with nine, while also chipping in two blocks in the Turks’ sectional title win over Orion on Nov. 6.

Ava Ray, Washington girls swimming and diving

Ray was part of a Washington squad that won the Normal Community Sectional, winning the sectional crown in diving with 503.6 points. That total was the fifth-highest across the state among any divers in sectionals and helped Ray qualify for the IHSA state finals.
