Peoria Notre Dame had to scratch and claw their way through a regular season that brought some adversity their way. The Irish had to do the same in their regional title game against No. 2 seed El Paso-Gridley on Friday, and were rewarded with a regional plaque in a 47-30 win. PND head Coach Tom Lacher shed a couple tears after the win. After all that the Irish had been through, they had finally reached a peak and got to do so in front of their home crowd at The Kitchen.

BARTONVILLE – Survive and advance. Richwoods (26-4) battled until the final buzzer to defeat Morton 56-53 in the Class 3A regional championship in front of a standing-room-only crowd at Vern Woosley Gymnasium on Friday.

Peoria Notre Dame girls basketball would’ve made Prince proud on Thursday night. Why?  They’re partying like it's 1999. The Class 2A No. 1 Irish continued their run of pure dominance against one of their toughest foes all season and hoisted a sectional plaque for the first time in 25 years with a 59-37 win over No. 8 Dee-Mack at the hallowed Alice Ingersoll Gym in Canton.

Nick Mueller knew what he had to do on Saturday at the State Farm Center in Champaign.  The Dunlap senior wrestler had done enough to put himself back in the same match he ended his season in last year: a Class 2A state title match. Mueller avenged his defeat from 2023 and became Dunlap’s first-ever wrestling state champion, lifting a big weight off his shoulders.

Peoria Notre Dame Irish girls basketball had the opportunity to do something they have not done since 2014. And with a matchup against the Sherrard Tigers on Friday night for a right to move on to sectionals, the Irish didn’t miss their opportunity to win the Class 2A IVC Regional title.

Morton Potters girls basketball got one more step closer to their goal of getting to Redbird Arena on Thursday night. After fending off Limestone in the regional semifinals, the Potters came into their regional title game winners of nine straight and faced off against a Galesburg team that was red-hot in its own right. The Silver Streaks had won six out of their last seven coming into Thursday night after defeating Richwoods in the semifinals.

In postseason high school basketball, there are no do-overs.  However, a non-conference girls basketball showdown between Class 2A contenders Bloomington Central Catholic and Eureka on Feb. 8 gave each team one last chance this season to compete without their seasons on the line.

The Peoria Notre Dame girls basketball team has done a lot of winning this year. One thing the Irish had never done though was win a Big 12 Conference title outright. That all changed on Thursday night as the Irish beat Manual 87-45 to finish off a perfect 10-0 conference record and head into the playoffs at 27-4.
