BCC’s Wyse, Normal U-High’s Hitt win CSM Fall Athletes of the Week

A pair of veteran Bloomington/Normal area standouts won the latest Clutch Sports Media Fall Athlete of the Week honors after powering their squads to multiple victories.

Bloomington Central Catholic’s Jack Wyse and Normal U-High’s Audrey Hitt earned the most votes in their respective Athlete of the Week polls after Wyse scored in four consecutive games for the Saints’ soccer team and Hitt went low multiple times to add two more victories to the Pioneers’ expansive trophy case this season.

Wyse won CSM Boys Athlete of the Week after receiving 45 percent of the votes in the boys poll. He accumulated six goals and an assist across four games, three of which were wins that jump-started what is now a seven-game win streak for the Saints. Wyse scored a goal in a 3-1 loss to Yorkville on Sept. 14, then added two goals with an assist in a 9-0 win over Tolono Unity on Sept. 15. He added a goal in a crucial 3-2 Illini Prairie Conference win over St. Joseph-Ogden on Sept. 17 and scored twice more in a 6-0 win over Decatur St. Teresa on Sept. 19. Wyse currently leads the 9-6 Saints with 11 goals on the season.

What’s been your favorite memory of your current season so far? 

“My favorite memory of this season is bus rides with the guys and having good conversations.”

What has helped your team get hot lately? 

“We have been getting very hot by playing our way and not folding to what the other team wants us to do. and simply just playing simple and smart.”

Favorite movie?

“My favorite movie is Dumb and Dumber.”

Favorite pro or college sports team?

“I love the Florida Gators.”

Do you have any pregame routines/rituals?

“I just like to listen to music before games and talk with Ben Dappen before games.”

Dream vacation spot?

“My dream vacation spot is Greece.”

Who’s your role model and why?

“My role models are my parents. They show me how to be a good person and made me the person who I am and I don’t know what I would do without them.”

Hitt won CSM Girls Athlete of the Week after receiving 43 percent of the votes in the girls poll. The Pioneers’ senior led her team to several victories, starting at the Olympia Scramble on Sept. 14 where she and her sister, Hadley Hitt, teamed up to shoot a 66 and win the tournament. Hitt’s score of 75 at the Livingston County Invitational on Sept. 17 led Normal U-High to a team victory and gave her second place as an individual. Since then, Hitt led the Pioneers to a 28-stroke victory at the Central State Eight Conference Tournament and finished as the runner-up with a 79 and tied for third at the Pekin Dragon Classic with an 80.

What’s been your favorite memory of your high school career so far?

“My favorite memory isn’t anything specific, but rather all of the bus rides to and from tournaments over the years. All of the food stops, songs blasted, and inside jokes we’ve made are memories I’ll never forget.”

If you had to be stranded on an island with a teammate, who would it be and why?

“If I had to be stranded on an island, I’d want it to be with both Hadley [Hitt] and Kendall [O’Connor] because they are my best friends. They would keep me entertained and find a way to make it fun.”

Favorite music artist?

“Either Old Dominion or Rascal Flatts.”

Favorite food?

“My grandma’s mac and cheese.”

Do you have any pregame routines/rituals?

“I always wear my lucky green ribbon, and Hadley always has to be the one to tie it.”

What’s one thing that’s on your bucket list?

“I really want to go back to Augusta National to watch The Masters. That was the coolest experience of my life and I’d love to go back.”

Who’s your role model and why?

“My biggest role model is my boyfriend, Jack. I really admire how dedicated he is to everything he does and how he always pushes himself to be better. He’s shown me that you can be driven while still being a good person, and that’s something I really look up to.”
