After earning a hefty amount of votes in their respective polls, Delavan’s Cooper Hansen and Peoria Heights’ Emily Dana won the CSM Winter Athletes of the Week honors.
Hansen’s Panthers are playing on Friday for a regional title against Camp Point Central while Dana’s Patriots won their first regional title since 1992 after defeating Varna (Midland). Get to know about both outstanding athletes and their accomplishments below.
Hansen won CSM Boys Athlete of the Week with 52 percent of the vote total. He accomplished the rare feat of a triple double for the first time in his career with 15 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds that boosted Delavan to a 69-55 Inter-County Conference win over North Fulton on Feb. 15. He previously stuffed the stat sheet evenly by scoring seven points, dishing out six assists and swiping five steals in a 56-53 loss to Peoria Quest on Feb. 13. Hansen and the Panthers are searching for a regional title on Friday after beating Lewistown 46-36 in the Class 1A regional quarterfinals and eliminating Augusta (Southeastern) 37-20 in the regional semifinals.

What’s been your favorite memory of the season so far?
“When we beat Athens for the first time in a long time to defend our home court.”
If you were stranded on an island with a teammate, who would you want it to be and why?
“Cole Noreuil because I’ve known him my whole life. He’s pretty strong and intelligent.”

“Steak.”
I’d want concert tickets to see?
“The Script.”
If I could have a superpower it would be?
“To be invisible.”
Who do you think is the greatest basketball player of all time?
“Michael Jordan.”
Who’s your role model and why?
“My brother Nate because he taught me to grow up with things not always going my way and to be able to fight through adversity.”
Dana won CSM Girls Athlete of the Week by garnering 44 percent of the vote total after leading Peoria Heights to just its second regional championship in program history. The senior, who’s committed to play at Illinois Central College, was unstoppable in a 65-30 regional semifinal triumph over Roanoke-Benson by scoring 30 points on 57 percent shooting to go with five assists and four steals. She helped carry the Patriots to postseason hardware by making six 3-pointers and finishing with 20 points in a 52-29 win over Varna (Midland) on Feb. 16. Dana finished her senior season by leading Peoria Heights with 14.3 points per game and averaging 3.9 rebounds per game, 3.0 steals per game and 2.8 assists per game.

“I would want it to be [Ny’Aja Russell]. She’s strong physically and mentally so we would survive.
