A rainy, windy Friday provided a multitude of cancellations throughout central Illinois. Only one game was played on the diamond and pitch. Track and field teams had a handful of meets as well.

Mid-Illini softball was in full swing Thursday along with many outstanding individual performances on the softball diamond from the likes of Illini Bluffs, Brimfield and Normal West. Multiple games in baseball and softball went to extra innings and Canton baseball earned its first Mid-Illini win of the year against an unlikely foe to lead the way on a big Wednesday of high school sports in Central Illinois. A heaping portion of baseball and softball in Central Illinois on Monday resulted in a handful of walk-off wins in softball, such as ones from Illini Bluffs, Dee-Mack and Delavan. The Roundup, April 20, 2024: Doubleheaders dominate in jam-packed Saturday of prep sports
Another full Saturday of high school sports action in Central Illinois saw many doubleheaders being played in baseball and softball, along with many other non-conference matchups pitting two regional powerhouses against each other. Washington and Normal U-High had great showings in girls soccer while Pekin, Normal Community and Normal West showed out strongly in track and field. Suspense on the diamond highlighted Friday’s action. Normal Community walked off Richwoods in extra innings, Peoria Christian walked off Rock Island Alleman, and Washington walked off Geneseo and got walked off by West Aurora. Wednesday featured high-level action with can’t-miss matchups, including Dunlap and East Peoria clashing on the baseball field and Richwoods and Normal Community on the soccer pitch. The Roundup, April 11, 2024: Marquee girls soccer games, conference matchups in softball lead way on Thursday
Nearly all of the area’s best girls soccer teams were in action on Thursday, with Peoria Notre Dame and Richwoods staying undefeated in the Big 12 realm while Metamora and Morton hit the road against stout non-conference foes. All five Bloomington/Normal area teams won in softball, as well as a pair of Mid-Illini squads. Farmington, Brimfield/Elmwood and Dunlap all won tight games in baseball. An extra-inning victory from Metamora baseball gave the Redbirds a signature win over Morton, who hadn’t lost a Mid-Illini game yet this season. Tuesday’s slate of high school sports in Central Illinois featured equally as many close games on the diamond as it did blowouts, with many notable highlights in both.
