The story of the day on Thursday in Central Illinois was Brimfield/Elmwood throwing a no-hitter against Illini Bluffs to help the Indians remain undefeated. The B/E softball team’s bats stayed hot, as did Illini Bluffs’ Lext Brinkman’s in a key win over East Peoria. Normal Community, Metamora and Tremont were other notable baseball winners while East Peoria, Metamora and Olympia continued their winning ways in softball. The Roundup, March 27, 2024: Walk-Off Wednesday from Limestone and Delavan, IB prevails over East Peoria in key softball matchup
Baseball and softball games in Central Illinois finally resumed after a dismal stretch of weather and Wednesday’s action proved that many teams were saving up great performances during that stretch. Limestone and Delavan baseball both won extra-inning walk-offs while four other Mid-Illini teams and each team from Bloomington and Normal winning to go with it. The Roundup, March 26, 2024: Domination outside the state for baseball and softball, plus Mid-Illini girls soccer
Cold temperatures halted a majority of the action within the Land of Lincoln, but various area baseball and softball teams ventured outside of the state and saw success. Tuesday was the opening night of Mid-Illini play and featured multiple exciting games and Dunlap won a big-time boys tennis match.

The Roundup, March 25, 2024: Teams head south for Spring Break tournaments
Spring sports are in full swing in Central Illinois, and although Mother Nature was victorious on plenty of occasions, there were still a fair amount of games unaffected by the weather. Multiple teams took advantage of spring break by heading south to Tennessee, Alabama and Florida to soak up the sun and play some ball. The Roundup, March 22, 2024: BCC shines in track & field and softball, EPG qualifies many in Top Times meet
A rainy and cold Friday led to many cancellations in baseball and softball, with Bloomington Central Catholic taking advantage of a warmer climate in Tennessee to play, and win, its game. The Class 1A Illinois Top Times Championships in indoor track and field was held at the Shirk Center in Bloomington with champions from BCC, El Paso-Gridley and Elmwood. Shutout wins by Morton and Normal Community girls’ soccer teams over state finalists from last year highlighted Thursday’s high school sports action in Central Illinois. The bats for Canton softball and East Peoria baseball stayed hot and Eureka, El Paso-Gridley and Morton all won in both baseball and softball. The Roundup, March 19, 2024: Canton scores 30, PND prevails in key soccer match, IVC, East Peoria and Brimfield go 2-for-2 on diamond
Tuesday saw many crooked numbers in scorebooks, including Canton demolishing West Central 31-0 and Dee-Mack softball stealing 20 bases in a win. Six area small schools were victorious in baseball while Tremont, East Peoria and Olympia all won in shutouts in softball. Three girls soccer matches featured a Big 12 vs. Mid-Illini matchup with the latter winning two of those. The Roundup, March 18, 2024: Richwoods, Normal Community win big in girls soccer plus indoor girls track and field standouts
A cold and windy Monday in Central Illinois forced over a dozen cancellations or postponements in baseball, softball and girls soccer. Some teams stuck it out and came away with big wins, including a pair of Big 12 girls soccer teams. El Paso-Gridley won its first baseball game of the year and over a dozen girls track and field stars shone at the Clinton Last Chance Indoor Invite.

The Roundup, March 16, 2024: Over 50 games across Central Illinois baseball, softball, track, lacrosse and tennis
Saturday may have been the busiest day of the 2023-24 high school sports season to date with over 20 baseball games, 15 softball games and 12 soccer matches to go with multiple large indoor track and field invites. Washington, Dunlap, Normal Community, East Peoria and Canton all swept doubleheaders in baseball. Metamora did likewise in softball, alongside big wins from Dunlap and Olympia. Weather-related postponements but a temporary stop on some of the fun in Central Illinois high school sports on Thursday, but some teams made the most of it. The elements weren’t a factor at the Pontiac Indoor Invite in girls track and field, with Normal Community, Washington and Eureka all winning multiple titles. The Roundup, March 13, 2024: IVC, Dunlap, Princeville shine on diamond, plus girls track and field highlights from Normal
Wednesday was another busy day in Central Illinois high school sports with Princeville and IVC taking advantage of the unseasonably warm weathers with wins in both baseball and softball. Dunlap, Limestone and Brimfield/Elmwood all stayed unbeatedn in baseball, as did Olympia in softball. The Normal West Indoor Invite brought dozens of girls track and field teams together with area representatives seeing balanced success. Dunlap kicked off its lacrosse season as well.

Spring has officially sprung in the IHSA sports season with baseball, softball, girls soccer and track and field kicking off. Boys and girls lacrosse and boys tennis will be not far behind. Tuesday featured five sectional semifinal games all around the area from Canton to Pontiac with state-ranked teams Normal Community, Metamora and Fieldcrest advancing to see another day.
