State champions were crowned and many other podium finishers stood out in the IHSA girls track and field state championships in Charleston on Saturday. A full slate of regional games in the girls soccer playoffs led the way on Tuesday with eight area teams winning, including Bloomington Central Catholic winning a regional title and Metamora winning on penalty kicks. The first postseason girls soccer matches got underway on Friday with Class 1A action, where Bloomington Central Catholic advanced to the regional title game. Wednesday marked the first postseason events across IHSA sports with sectional meets in girls track beginning. Many Class 2A and 3A teams were in action and sent multiple qualifiers to state, especially Normal U-High, Eureka and Dunlap. A strong day of pitching in baseball and softball was had on Monday with nine teams either enjoying the feeling of a shutout win or suffering a shutout loss. Morton, Bloomington and Peoria Notre Dame all won notable baseball games while Normal U-High won on a walk-off against a solid Central State Eight opponent.
